Frederick the Younger have been friends of This Man for a long time, recording an episode in 2014, playing our Halloween House Show that same year, and recording two Christmas specials. This past weekend the band released their long awaited full length debut " Human Child" to a packed house at Headliners. Opening were Voodoo Economics and Joann + The Dakota. This was my first time seeing J+TD since a Halloween show at Zanzabar in 2013 (which coincidentally was my first time seeing both Twin Limb and Ancient Warfare) and first time with the current lineup. I was really impressed with the sound which was even pop-ier than I remember and the songs were catchy as all get out. There was a song about a lucky capo in particular that has been bouncing around in my head in the days since the show. Frederick The Younger have gone through several metamorpheses since I first caught the duo of Aaron and Jenni, playing as Dr. Vitamin, at La Bodega in early 2014. With each shift the sound has gotten tighter and each song more polished. The current line-up meld into the penultimate FTY- with each member adding a crucial ingredient. I can remember moments during the set looking member to member and picking out each contribution to the soundscape. One moment I'm captivated by a catchy bassline from Matt, another the noodling of John or the percussive brilliance of Dave. All in all an absolutely splendid set. In the lead-up to the show FTY promised some very special guests and boy did they over deliver on that promise. 1200 added a verse to the title track of FTY's new album and to top it all of- as an encore to their set, Frederick the Younger brought along a few pals to pay tribute to Sgt. Pepper's 60th anniversary. Check out photos from the evening below.
